Care222
The Care222 technology is a new ultraviolet (UV) light technology that can neutralise viruses, including the coronavirus, in occupied spaces.
The Difference
Care222 UV lights are different, they use Far UV-C lamps, which operate at a different wavelength than normal UV lights, and are equipped with a unique optical filter that makes the Care222 system the first and only filtered Far UV-C light module that can be used with people present.
The problem with using standard UV-C light (254nm) as surface sanitaion
Standard 254nm UV-C lights can’t be used where people are present, as it can damage the skin and eyes. The significant difference between 254nm and 222nm light: the shorter wavelengths of Far-UVC 222nm light can’t deeply penetrate the outer layer of our skin. This layer, the stratum corneum, consists of dead skin cells and serves as the primary barrier between our bodies and the environment. Conversely, longer wavelengths like 254nm are able to deeply penetrate the layers of our skin, and can damage the DNA in our skin cells, causing burns and skin cancers.
254nm (and longer) wavelengths are able to damage oureyes, including incurable diseases like macular degeneration as wavelengths of 230nm and above can penetrate our eyes. Shorter wavelength 222nm light has a limited range that prevents it from penetrating past our corneas, the outermost layer of our eyes.
The real breakthrough in Care222 technology came with the development of the light filtration system. The Far UV-C excimer lamp module with short pass filter prevents longer wavelengths of UV light that are above 230nm from being emitted. Especially important feature that other 222nm and Far UV-C emitting products do not have. That’s why the proprietary Care222 module is a better choice than unfiltered excimer lamps used in disinfecting systems.
